“Between Me and You”–Review

Ambition, fame, and loss test the marriage of a film star and her screenwriter husband.

Ben Livingston is a screenwriter, on the brink of success, when he crosses paths with Tatum Connelly, a struggling actress working at a New York City bar. They eventually fall in love, marry, and start a family. Throughout their marriage, the roles reverse: Tatum’s acting career takes off and her stardom rises, while Ben struggles with his writing. While their marriage goes from bliss to a crossroads, Ben and Tatum wonder where they went wrong and ask themselves if what they have is worth saving.

The chapters alternate from Ben and Tatum’s points-of-view, from when they met to when loss, secrets, and career paths changed between them. After years of drifting apart, can they save their marriage?

I’m happy I finally got the chance to read this book, which has been on my to-be-read pile. The story depicts the ups and downs of a marriage, betrayals, loss, falling in and out of love, and forgiveness. I recommend this one for those who are looking for a good love story.

When I met Allison Winn Scotch, back in February, at a book event, she was so happy to sign her book to me because it’s not often I come across a book with a main character who has my name. “I’ve never met a Tatum before,” she told me. It was a great night. Also, this is my first read by the author and I just reminded myself that I must read her latest novel, Cleo McDougal Regrets Nothing.

“Best name, ever!”
